The stunning conclusion of a musical that celebrates over 20 years of Broadway magic is bringing audiences closure to the untold story of the witches of Oz.  Wicked For Good picks up years after Elphaba learns the truth as she attempts to to show the Ozians and free the animals for good. The only problem is now her closest friend Glinda has gotten exactly what she wants and that is fame and popularity even at the expense of not having any magical talents. It’s the act or illusion that the people thrive for as the are now targeting the wicked witch of the west as the true villain.

Ultimately the story does a good job of taking what is in the book and expounding on it to explain the actions that take place in the Wizard of Oz including how the iconic characters come to be; the scarecrow. Tin man, cowardly lion and yes Dorothy and the wicked witch of the east.

The film brings back all of the original cast Including Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Butler-Grande who do nothing but exceptional work as like the first film. The film even gives both actresses unique songs, not seen in the broadway production, that further fill out what we never knew we were missing. Additionally Ethan Slater, Jonathan Bailey, and Marissa Bode carry the supporting roles including their epic transformations and Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum further delve into what truly makes them all that much more wicked.

As far as Dorothy while we do see enough of her to know what’s happening, it’s more of an illusion as well so as not to destroy what fans have came to know and love of the original actress. That being said, young Bethany Weaver does a good job of portraying such an iconic role and keeping the legend of Judy Garland alive.

Additionally the film does drum up some anticipation as to whether or not the story will continue with the next book “Son of a Witch”. For now only time will tell on that mystery.

All in all there is a greater story to be told in the adaptation of the witches of Oz which is summed up in the original film, that is wicked born wicked is truly made and it’s what we do that causes people and things to turn to the wicked ways.

It’s a lesson to all and one that ought to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Wicked For Good came out in theaters November 21st and is currently playing in one near you.
