Anaconda/Song Sung Blue REVIEWS

Two films buy for audience attention this Christmas weekend as the box office sees it's normal uptick of indie films all trying to get that award recognition with end of the year releases. Both films hold a beacon of hope in their story line, while one is masked as a a horror comedy and the other is a real life musical biopic. Read the reviews below.

"Anaconda" REVIEW

A group of rad tag friends are living out their childhood dreams. It’s time to reboot Anaconda. The problem is they don’t have nearly the amount of money needed, but that’s not going to stop them. They’ll just do it indie style. 

The fun action film stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd who do an exceptional job of making complete fools of themselves.  They do so in a way that will have audiences sympathizing with them as film makers while laughing at the ridiculous scenes with and without the snake. 

Anaconda, though it does have a slight message of hope for anyone who still has child hood dreams, it's a movie that is camouflaged as that of a stupid dumb comedy. The visuals are relatively basic as it's meant to portray low budget indie film makers and for that reason, does a good job of portraying that.

Overall, the film is more of a comedy than horror film genre. It and have audiences wondering just what they are watching. The film came out in theaters Christmas Eve and is currently showing in one near you. 

"Song Sung Blue" REVIEW

The incredible true story of America’s sweethearts that took Milwaukee by storm and brought the legend of Neil diamond to those who couldn’t get tickets to the real deal. When Mike and Claire find love through the music, it’s the music that keeps them going when devastating accidents happen to each other. 

All in all, the film stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson who do an exceptional job both musically and emotionally.  The film is put together more as a stage production that is meant to engage with and one can definitely see the Showman charm that Jackson brings to the picture. His chemistry both with the music and his co-actor Hudson is spot on as he portrays a very real cover band, Lightening and Thunder.

Additionally the film stars Jim Belushi as his stage manager friend, who adds an extra element of drama and emotion. Belushi, equally does a good job in stepping into that type of role with the chemistry of him with both Jackman and Hudson. Hudson equally does an excellent job, matching vocally with Jackson in a way that compliments him as a performer.

Song Sung Blue came out in theaters Dec 24, just in time for award nominations. It's playing in theaters near you as a fitting tribute not to musical legend, Neil Diamond, but the duo that became just as famous, Lightening and Thunder.
