June Squibb is exceptional in Eleanor The Great. When Eleanor tragically loses her good friend and roommate of 11 years, she decides to move from Florida to Manhattan to live with her daughter. While there she visits a community group and finds herself awkwardly walking into a holocaust survivor’s group. Prompted to tell her story, she finds herself telling the story of her good friend only to realize her story would be on national television news. Now Eleanor has a decision to make: keep going down the rabbit hole or fess up and tell the truth?

Overall Squibb at 94 proves the fact that age is just a number as she elegantly portrays that of witty comedy and heartwarming emotion in her latest feature length film. Additionally the film stars Willow star Erin Kellyman as she equally pores her heart and soul into the role as she uses her journalistic assignment to overcome grief of her own while trying to get close to her father (Chiwetel Ejoifor) who also deals with his own sense of grief in a way that most adults do: that is throwing their energy into their work.

All in all it’s a good old fashioned film for the whole audience as it encompassed grief from all aspects of life and what we do when we just can’t deal with it.

Eleanor the Great is currently playing in select theaters near you.
