Life’s anything but perfect for Lieutenant Governor Ella McCay especially given her dysfunctional family. Growing up in a family where her father cheated and her mother constantly took him back even after having her heart constantly broken, the one constant in Ella’s life is her need to protect her little brother from the trauma all while trying to accomplish her goals. The only thing is just when she’s on the verge of greatness when she is given the opportunity of Governor, a personal scandal nearly wrecks her life and her marriage. The question is just how will she over come this and make a change for the good?
The dramatic comedy will have you questioning just how bad your family can be as Ella McCay’s family takes the cake. The film stars Emma Mackey who does an exceptional job of coping with this as well as Freakier Friday's Jamie Lee Curtis as her sensible Aunt who seemingly makes everything make sense in the end. Furthermore Now You See Me's Woody Harrelson does an exceptional job as the insensitive father who attempts forgiveness while Ella is having her own issues. Finally Kumail Nanjiani rounds out the cast as Ella’s driver who ultimately ends up becoming something more.
All In all Ella McCay is a movie that will have you laughing and sympathizing with the main character through all her ups and down. The film came out in theaters December 12 and is currently playing in one near you.
