8 years after a little girl disappears in Cairo, Egypt, the family is still determined to discover what happened to Katie. When she is found alive after a plane crash near an Oasis in Egypt and returned home for recovery, the plot thickens as her father does further research including deciphering morsh code which he realizes she is communicating with her teeth. It is a name "Layla" that he must find to uncover the truth and in turn do everything in his power to save his beloved daughter even if it means sacrificing hisself to do so. Question is can he really do it or is Katie that much lost to the dead?
At 2 hour 13 minute run time, Lee Cronin's The Mummy is a pretty disturbing version of a timely classic monster movie. It provides a story that will have audiences on the edge of their seat wondering how this "mummy" adventure will turn out in the end and wondering just how the family indeed will survive to terror withing.
The casting incudes Midsommar's Jack Reynor as journalist and father who does an exceptional job overall. Joining him is Laia Costa as his wife and the mother of Katie who equally does just as good of a job conveying the emotion that a mother who loses a child would convey. Additionally, May Calamawy plays the detective on the case as she goes from being cold and heartless to one that truly just wants Katie and the family to live and be all right. Finally, casting of the children is exceptionally done as the three young actors, Natalie Grace as Katie, Billie Roy as Maud and Shylo Molina as Seb all exceed expectations as the powers of the demon inside Katie grows even more and causes all the children to fall prey to influence. The way in which the children communicate with each other is so in sync, one would think they have more experience even. Grace whose first role is this one. Ultimately its going to interesting to see what roles these three will have next.
All in All, this version of The Mummy is well worth the watch, especially for those who love a good horror monster movie. The film officially comes out April 17 and is playing in a theater near you. See it as a Half way to Halloween adventure to get ready for the anticipated spooky season.
