October 31, 2001 is a day that the Nichols family will remember. It's the day where their eldest son and his best friend went missing in the British Columbia Province with no concrete evidence as to what happened. Now 23 years later, Matthew's younger sister Tara is determined to bring home answers at all costs as she sets out on a "ghost hunting expedition". The question is will she and her partner Markian Tarsiuk succeed.

The latest ghost chasing film Hunting Matthew Nichols is ultimately Blair Witch Project meets Shelby Oaks as it is done primarly as a mockumentary. It does use alleged footage from the thousands of real life missing person cases reported in the Canadian Black Forest. Additionally, the filmmakers dapple in the supernatural as it turns "real life" cases into a suspense driven horror film that will have one question what is real and what is clever theatrical magic.

The film does star Tarsiuk who plays himself next to tv actress Miranda MacDougall as Tara, James Ross as her late brother, Matt and Ryan MacDonald who also plays himself in the archival footage.

Ultimately Tarsiuk does a good job of capturing the footage and using Hollywood magic to create a suspenseful conclusion. It will have you captivated from the first moment on as one is nearly halfway to Halloween. It's a film that is sure to catch your eye and cause you hopefully to not venture into the Black Canadian forest anytime soon.

Hunting Matthew Nichols actually came out in 2024 and is returning to American audiences for a slight extended release. See it in a theater near you.
